The cost of adopting a dog from Country Acres Pet Service is very reasonable and we hope that you consider adopting your next pet there as well as recommend them to people you know. They offer complete adoption services 7 days a week from 8am to 5pm or by appointment if you cannot visit during those hours. A dog that is already spayed or neutered costs about $43.00 which includes the cost of the vaccinations. Dogs that are not spayed or neutered cost about $85.00, which includes the vaccinations and a $35.00 deposit for spaying and neutering. You will receive a voucher which will allow you to have your dog spayed or neutered at a participating vet of your choice and pay only $30.00. After the surgery, the vet will mail the voucher to Ag & Markets and your $35.00 deposit will be returned to you. When a dog is adopted that was impounded from Groton, the Town will receive $10.00 of the adoption fee.
Country Acres Pet Services operates its own dog shelter where dogs are very well cared for by an experienced and concerned staff following strict New York State Agriculture & Markets guidelines. All dogs receive vaccinations for rabies, distemper, parvo virus and bordatella (kennel cough). They make every effort to return lost dogs to their rightful owners or find new homes for those who are not claimed. By law, an unidentified dog may be euthanized after being held for 5 days but this is not the policy of Country Acres Pet Services. Dogs are never unnecessarily killed and some have been kept for up to a year before finding a new home. It is a sad fact of life that some dogs are too sick or injured to save, some are dangerous, and some are just not adoptable for other reasons and because of this, Country Acres does not claim to be a no kill facility. However, Ms. Wright, the Animal Health Inspector from Ag & Markets says that in reality they are very, very close to being one.
