To obtain a voter registration form:
1.  Stop by our office at 101 Conger Boulevard or the Tompkins County Board of Elections at                                                 128 E. Buffalo Street, Ithaca, NY 14850
2.  Call 898-5035 or 274-5521 and ask for a form to be sent to you.
3.  Click    HERE    to download a voter registration form that you can print and then mail to us (address above), or bring to our office. You must have Adobe Acrobat on your computer to see this file. If you get a blank screen, click "refresh." Also, disabling anti-popup software may help. Be sure to click on the printer icon in the Adobe toolbar, not the browser toolbar. Note: You cannot register to vote via e-mail, fax, or  the internet.

Deadline Information:
You can register in person at your county board of elections on any normal business day, except election day. If you want to vote in an election, you must mail or deliver this form to your county board of elections no later than 25 days before the election in which you want to vote. Your eligibility to vote will be based on the date you file this form.

Identification Requirements: 
All new registrants must provide identification when they register.  Identification means a verifiable New York State Driver's license number. ONLY IF you do not have a NYS Driver's license  then you can provide the last four digits of your Social Security number, as requested on the registration form.  Also, if you register by mail, you must provide a copy of ID. Otherwise you will be asked for ID when you vote.

To register, you must:
*Be a US citizen
* Be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you file your registration card (note: you  must be 18 years old by the date of the General, Primary, or other election in which you want to vote)
* Not claim the right to vote elsewhere

You may not register to vote if you have been convicted of a felony and: you are currently incarcerated; or you are under parole supervision.

You can use a registration form to:
* Register to vote in the state of New York,
* Change your name/address since you last voted,
* Enroll in a political party or change your current enrollment.


In 1993 the
National Voter Registration Act was passed allowing voter registration forms to also be available at several offices, such as Town or Village Clerks, Post Offices, School Offices, Chamber of Commerce, Party Chairpersons, Department of Motor Vehicles, and other State Agencies.

"A change of enrollment must be received by the Board of Elections not later than the last day of local registration before the General Election  in order for it to be effective for the following year's Primary"
